Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century and has since become a popular form of exercise worldwide, often recommended by physical therapists and fitness professionals for its low-impact nature and ability to improve overall physical and mental wellbeing.
GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is a holistic exercise method developed by Juliu Horvath, a Hungarian dancer, in the 1980s to aid his recovery from dance injuries. It includes GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® and both of them combines principles of yoga, dance, tai chi, and swimming to improve flexibility, strength, and balance through circular and flowing movements. For GYROTONIC®, specialized equipment such as a tower, pulley system, and rotating handle unit provide variable resistance and assistance. GYROKINESIS®method was created even before developing GYROTONIC® method. GYROKINESIS®method does not require specific equipments but only utilizes a stool and mat to facilitate fluid, circular movements that involve the entire body. GYROTONIC® Expansion System is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, including athletes, dancers, and those in recovery from illness or injury.

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods use three-dimensional circular motion based on natural shapes and patterns found in the human body. This movement pattern effectively opens energy channels and rejuvenates the neurological system, promoting endurance and locomotor efficiency. The GYROTONIC® method uses a weight-and-pulley circuit to provide resistance while the straps support motion, which gives support you to explore your full range of motion in every joints. GYROKINESIS® method involves fluid circular movements using a stool and mat, relying more on proprioception.
It is not uncommon for people to misconstrue the differences between Pilates and yoga, particularly in regions like Hong Kong where the practices are prevalent. Despite their shared focus on physical health, Pilates and yoga have distinct philosophies and approaches.
Pilates emphasizes building strength and flexibility through controlled, precise movements that target specific muscle groups, improving overall movement and function. In contrast, yoga is a practice that incorporates meditation, breathing exercises etc, with the goal of harmonizing the mind, body, and spirit, and promoting spiritual well-being.
In general, pilates is emphasis on the development of core strength, enhancement of flexibility and range of motion, and promotion of proper posture and alignment. In contrast, GYROTONIC® method is characterized by its utilization of continuous, circular and spiral movements that are uniquely tailored to enhance the range of motion of every joint, foster better coordination, promote body awareness, and optimize posture.

Yes! Pilates/ GYROTONIC® during pregnancy is a specialized and customized form of exercise. Pre-natal Pilates/ GYROTONIC® helps to strengthen pelvic floor muscles, improve posture (necessary for increased lordosis during pregnancy), and enhance flexibility (especially tight hamstrings), and overall fitness. This type of exercise is known to alleviate pregnancy-related discomforts such as back pain, swelling, and fatigue.
To fully enjoy your Piltaes/ GYROTONIC® session, it's recommended to wear comfortable clothing that fits your personal preferences. A form-fitting top made of breathable fabric and stretchy bottoms can provide the necessary comfort and flexibility. In our Pilates/ GYROTONIC® session , shoes are not required and students are requested to wear socks to maintain hygiene and prevent slipping.
After participating Pilates/ GYROTONIC® lesson, many of client report feeling energized, relaxed, and with improved posture. Our physiotherapist/ instructor guide you through a comprehensive warm-up, stretching, strength exercises, and cool-down routine, aimed at minimizing soreness and maximizing results for your body.
